GOOSE CREEK, S.C. — A North Charleston man was killed Friday evening when the pickup truck he was driving left Foster Creek Road and hit a tree, Berkeley County authorities confirmed.

The fatal single-vehicle crash happened around 7:20 p.m. along the 500 block of Foster Creek Road, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.

Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell identified the driver as 38-year-old Byron Hugee of North Charleston. Hugee was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining fatal injuries in the collision.

No other vehicles were reported to be involved.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, the Hanahan Police Department and the coroner’s office are jointly investigating what led up to the crash. A cause has not yet been released.

Foster Creek Road is a well-traveled corridor connecting neighborhoods in the Goose Creek and Hanahan areas of Berkeley County.
